Dr. Laura MacDonald completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario, where she received her Bachelor of Science in biology. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2009 and graduated magna cum laude.

As part of her Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. MacDonald had internships at Omni Eye Services in New Jersey, West Palm Beach Veterans Hospital in Florida, and Kresge Eye Institute in Michigan. She was exposed to all aspects of specialized eye care, including rotations in cataract surgery, oculoplastics, ocular disease, pediatrics, and specialty contact lenses. After graduating, she completed a cornea and contact lens residency at SUNY College of Optometry and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City, NY.

Dr. MacDonald has volunteered her time and services by holding the director of community services position while in optometry school and also travelled to Mexicali, Mexico, with Give the Gift of Sight Foundation to provide eye care to over 20,000 individuals.

Dr. MacDonald’s particular areas of interest include ocular disease, pediatrics, and contact lenses. She is certified by the Canadian Examiners in Optometry and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to treat and manage ocular disease. She is also a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

Dr. MacDonald loves being back in her hometown. When she isn’t seeing patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children, Sloane and Nicholas. She loves exercising, travelling, doing projects around her home, and eating delicious food.

Dr. Gerry Day has been practicing for more than 2 decades and still loves spending every day with his amazing patients and staff. He is dedicated to providing the best eye care through continuous staff and doctor training while investing in new technologies.

Previously, Dr. Day worked as a chemical engineer for Suncor Energy. He enjoyed a number of positions there, from operations and engineering to head office jobs, including marketing, manager of company operations, and business analyst. He left Suncor in 1991 to pursue his passion for eye care.

Dr. Day believes in supporting local, national, and international charities. He is the past president of the Huron House Boys’ Home, where he stood as a board member for 10 years. Currently, he is honoured to be on the board of directors of Eye Recommend, Canada’s premier practice management and buyers group.

When he’s not in the office or volunteering, you can find Dr. Day spending time with his family, travelling, and getting outdoors for mountain biking and boating. He is also involved in coaching and training the local minor hockey teams.

Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Dr. Monique Lis graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Lakehead University in 2011. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.

Her clinical experience began in her first year of training when she was involved with elementary school vision screenings. She had the opportunity to work in several clinics and hospitals in and around the Boston area. In her final year, her clinical rotations included ocular disease at Manchester VA Medical Center in New Hampshire, pediatrics and primary care at Martha Elliott Health Center/Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, and contact lenses and primary care at Marino Eyecare in Miami, FL.

Dr. Lis is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. She is certified by the Canadian Examiners in Optometry and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to treat and manage ocular disease.

Dr. Lis is happy to be a part of In Focus Eyecare, serving the community in both the Sarnia and Grand Bend areas. In her spare time, Dr. Lis enjoys running, travelling, trying new foods, and spending time by the lake. She has a Polish background and speaks the language fluently.

Dr. Kristen Johnson grew up in Sarnia. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario in 2013. She then obtained her Doctorate in Optometry in 2018 at the Michigan College of Optometry (MCO) in Big Rapids, Michigan.

Dr. Johnson’s clinical externships in her fourth and final year of optometry school were at private optometry practices, the Aleda E Lutz Veterans Affairs hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, and at Henry Ford Optimeyes in Troy, Michigan. While at MCO, she served as president of Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH), which organizes medical eye care mission trips to underserved countries. In her third year of school, she participated in a mission trip to the small Caribbean island of Dominica, where she helped provide eye exams and glasses to thousands of residents of the island.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. She is also a member of the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She is certified by the Optometry Examining Board of Canada and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to treat and manage ocular disease.

Dr. Johnson always knew that she wanted to come back home to Sarnia, and she is excited to provide comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages in both Sarnia and Grand Bend locations. In her spare time, Dr. Johnson likes to read, cook, and travel with her husband.

Dr. Amru Abou-Zidan from Halifax, Nova Scotia earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Saint Mary’s University before delving into the Clinical Vision Science program at Dalhousie University. Inspired by his internship at the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax during this program, he developed a keen interest in ocular health, binocular vision and pediatrics. Continuing his education, Dr. Abou-Zidan went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo.

During his years in Optometry, he was actively involved in service trips and served as President of the Waterloo chapter of sVOSH (Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity), reflecting his dedication to expanding access to eye care in underserved communities globally. Dr. Abou-Zidan also actively participated in social and athletic affairs. His contributions were recognized with the Dr. Michael Gutwein Memorial Award, highlighting his leadership and commitment to both his professional and extracurricular endeavors.

Fluent in both English and Arabic, Dr. Abou-Zidan is passionate about providing personalized eye care to patients. Beyond his professional pursuits, he enjoys a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, and volleyball, as well as exploring his love for travel, food and hiking.
